of the Gatling Gun. Its use in the Civil War would forever decree that warfare would be waged on a larger scale. When one looks at American history, there
can be few other such instances where the views and philosophies of one nations people can be so divergent as to begin a war within its own borders. Such is
the case of the American Civil War. As states began interacting with one another and exchanging goods and services, it became evident that the new nation was indeed a collection
of two very diverging points of view on several major issues. Those issues mainly boiled down to the ability of each individual state to regulate itself, versus the collective power
of a centralized government for all. It would finally be settled by a force of will, weapons and supplies. The Gatling gun was the first machine gun that fired multiple
and rapid ammunition. The barrels circle a central axis and as a result could be fired at a much more rapid rate than the average firearm at the time(Bellis 2003).Gen.
Benjamin F. Butler of the Union army is generally credited with having been the first company to employ the use of the new technology in the battle of Petersburg in
