it right? Should someone be able to sue another person because the product was used excessively, or in a manner in which the product was not intended? And what about vehicles? Thousands of cars are recalled every year due to flaws or product malfunctions. Can the car industry continue to produce flawed vehicles? Should they be held to higher standards? In the end, it would seem that until the laws change, manufacturers will get away with as much as possible, producing cars that barely pass codes in order to maintain a higher bottom line. The Facts "General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp. and other automakers recalled a record 30.7 million vehicles in the U.S. last year, increasing costs and further diminishing public perception of auto quality"(Geimann 2005). So why should anyone care? There are plenty of reasons, and safety tops the list. Consider that manufacturers are held to certain base standards. Having met those standards there are loopholes which exist. Most car builders utilize these loopholes in order to beat a competitor to the marketplace. They may fully understand that there will be a recall on their vehicles, but in the meantime, they will have made enough money on the sale of the new line to pay for the work they will have to do on the recalls. AND, they are banking on the laziness of the average American. Most people who are notified of a recall do not respond, nor do they take their vehicle in for adjustment or repair.
