what will happen to the millions of Social Security recipients if current issues are not ironed out, there has to be a solid and workable solution if baby boomers are
going to have financial security in their twilight years. The last time the system was in such dire straits was back in 1983, and even then there was no
formal resolution until the eleventh hour, when it nearly came to the point where people did not receive their checks. The current situation cannot be allowed to reach such
a devastating point, as doing so will clearly demonstrate the lack of control this country has upon its financial considerations. President Clinton did not pay too much attention to
the Social Security woes during his first term in office; instead, he acted as so many other democracies do when faced with a looming fiscal crisis: they wait until the
very last possible minute to jump into action. President Bush intended to alter this path of action during his administration by proposing people become at least partly responsible for
their retirement fund and have government step back from making inappropriate investments with other peoples money, a plan that would only serve to increase the general publics already heavy economic
