yet seen by only one. The use of the supernatural in Shakespeares plays marked him as a genius of the human psyche and of the dramatic forms. Many have wondered
whether Banquos ghost really did return to the banquet, or whether MacBeth really did see a dagger hanging in front of him. It is safe to assume, however, that the
story of Macbeth is the story of a man driven into madness by his own ambitions run amuck. The fact is, Macbeth believes wholeheartedly in the supernatural and the
witches predictions and it is this belief, one could state, that is his undoing. So, when a dagger seems to be in front of him, or Banquos ghost appears at
the banquet hall, he does truly believe that they are there as some portent of things to come. However, it is quite evident that no one else sees them and
so they are directed only at Macbeth and no one else. So, if they are a figment of his imagination of if they really are apparitions sent by malevolent spirits/forces
to agonize him is irrelevant. What is important is that they are real to Macbeth. However, in Macbeth, not only does a ghost appear but a floating dagger, witches, and
prophetic apparitions make appearances(Shakespeare & Supernatural). One of the most climactic scenes in the play is the banquet where Banquos ghost appears. Up until this point there has been
a constant shift between reality and fantasy, which also tends to show that Macbeth still has a grip on what is real and what is not. However, with the appearance
