This movement signaled the beginning of the Enlightenment Period in history. However, as a result of this explosion of theories and new ideas, technological developments and social orders, humanity paid
the price. Capitalism became a greater force in society than it had ever been previously. It was against the resulting shift in perspectives that many writers of the day and
age railed. The effect of the Enlightenment Period would show itself in the scientific revolutions of the day, urging that reason and logic be held above religious dogma. Rationalism
was the result of a backlash against the steeped mysticism of the Church and was seen as the way society might protect against the mindless tyranny such as they had
known in previous decades. The effect in this area was that religion was bent to the will of science as was never done before. Scientific theories were utilized to explain
various events and causes in society, community, and religion. Another effect of Enlightenment Period was that there was the prevailing idea of voice of the majority. This came from the
influence of many great thinkers such as John Locke, Jean Rousseau, and Sir Isaac Newton. Also springing from these philosophies was the idea of greater tolerance for other ways of
life, whereas before there was no tolerance of any other culture or lifestyle other than that of the Euro-centric Christian model. Education for all was another idea which would
come from this time period. Before, the only constituents who received an education or could read were those persons born into a noble or royal family. With the advent of
an emerging middle class, education became a necessity. The father of modern capitalism, Adam Smith, paved the way for modern capitalistic thought
