central only to California, the ramifications for the rest of the nation are dire. FACTORS SURROUNDING THE UNINSURED One of the mitigating factors which have exacerbated the problem of uninsured
patients is the fact that, for the most part, the businesses located in San Diego County are mostly independently owned and operated by families or smaller operations. This means that
there is no money to extend health care benefits to their employees. Secondly, illegal immigration is crippling many of the states where it is a problem; California is no
exception. San Diego, by virtue of its location, sees the largest influx of immigrants than many of the surrounding counties in California. Most critically impaired, it would seem logical to
think, are the urgent care centers and emergency rooms because the uninsured wait to seek medical aid only as a last resort. Often they wait too late making the cost
of recovery financially draining on the institutions which serve the area. Everyone seems to understand that there are a large segment of the population who are going without care, the
trouble is, no one seems to want to point the finger at the cause. In fact, there is no one person, organization, or government agency at fault, it would seem.
Rather, it seems that there are a multitude of factors which cause the uninsured to continue to be uninsured and as a result further lower the economic stability of the
