on the cause of obesity but very few focus on the long term effects of continued maintenance of a healthy weight. What needs to be proposed is a longitudinal study
comprised of a wide demographic and ethnic sample in which women are studied over a period from early adulthood until menopause. Then one may gain a truer indication of how
womens bodies react to a lifetime of yo-yo dieting, whether weight loss is an indicator of social factors, and if external and socio-cultural indicators were factors. The question that needs
to be asked, it would seem, is if women are being taught about their own particular bodys metabolism as opposed to general overall (male oriented) biology, and if a better
understanding of how womens bodies and metabolisms differ would be of benefit. What seems to be certain based on the current literature is that there are currently very few people
addressing this question and secondly that women especially need to maintain a healthy weight for their age and frame. The only possible limitations that one could see in this
proposal would be the potential for too many variables such as ethnicity to enter into the data. Some genetics do predestine one to have more adipose tissue than other ethnicities.
Given this, then, one may wish to reduce and narrow the sampling to include only one ethnic background. In the end, however, it has to be stated that research of
this sort needs to be done and be ongoing as the number of women suffering from cancer and heart disease increases every year. INTRODUCTION:
