as well as "the first helicopter developed specifically for this role" (Military.com, 2005). It was believed that this particular project would combine technology with military know-how, and give Army aviation
a boost by giving the Army an advanced system of warfighting capabilities (Military.com, 2005). On top of being technologically adept, the Comanche
was touted as being easy to maintain and sustain, requiring less personnel and support equipment -- and easy to transport (Military.com, 2005). This had been the problem with helicopters in
the past -- transporting them from one place to another was difficult. The Comanche wasnt going to present this particular problem. Why,
then, if this was the Aircraft of the Future, did the Comanche finally fall victim to Congress? Why was it under the eagle eye of Pentagon spending since the late
1990s? It could be said that the Comanche was the Armys Edsel -- that it started out with great hopes and promises,
but when push came to shove, it was just one huge overhyped product. Like the Ford Edsel, there was nothing fundamentally wrong with the Comanche. It was just designed in
a particular period when it was needed, it promised the world, but in trying to deliver on its promises, it simply ended up costing way too much in the way
of taxpayer dollars. In this paper, well review the background of this particular aircraft, and discuss the technical aspects of the craft.
