do so. It is for his contribution to literature that there are countless awards and honors given in his name. Oddly enough, when one remembers what Poes life was like,
how he died and how his creative spirit was sometimes more than his body could bear, it is with great wonderment that any writer should doubt Poes destiny to be
an author. His tale, Cask of Amontillado is especially clever and important as it shows his maturity as a writer and, when analyzed, shows that his use of the literary
devices of symbolism, and juxtaposition are sparkling, clever, and brilliant. The tale begins during carnival season where the reader is introduced to
Montressor. Montressor is upset because another man, Fortunato has insulted him obliging Montressor to avenge his honor. However, he does so in a most cunning way. He pretends friendship and
offers the very drunk Fortunato a very rare type of sherry which he has back at his house. Being a connoisseur of fine wines, he readily agrees and follows Montressor
back to the house. Montressor has carefully constructed an alibi for himself with his servants, and the house is predictably empty
when they enter it. Fortunato has a bad cough and so, on their way to the wine cellar, Montressor keeps giving Fortunato more wine to drink. There is a bit
of foreshadowing that occurs at this point when Fortunato forgets what Montressors coat of arms stands for. With a sartorial grin, Montressor replies that the motto is: "No one attacks
me with impunity". In the very back part of the wine cellars, Montressor guides the very inebriated Fortunato,
