the nation has alternately encouraged and outraged him. In his article: The Campus Divided and Divided Again, he speaks about what cultural diversity set out to do and what it
has actually accomplished. Though the whole article is insightful and direct, the last four paragraphs of the article really summarize the tone of the whole piece. He is adamant
in his call for educators and students to wake up and see how ridiculous all this scramble to present diversity is. He illustrates the ridiculous extent to which American campuses
have sunken by stating that Bosnian students can have Bosnian food in the cafeteria as well as "Puerto Rican studies for the Puerto Rican students(Levine). Levines style seems to
be to present the situation as it currently is, then to show how the goal, which was aimed for, was not achieved. He condemns but also urges change as well.
Dr. Levines candor is also humorous, but with serious intent. He talks about how the colleges have done a great job of diversifying their curriculum. Then, he turns around in
the next sentence after that and says, "But the sheer quantity of activity hides the character of the changes, which are by accretion rather than by design"(Levine). This is
reinforced by the companion article by William Raspberry called, Its Not Easy Being White. His satirical outlook on being white does not overly criticize whites as much as it criticizes
the minority community for its overreaction to the simple events by people who are white. Just as Levine does, he pokes fun at the ridiculous nature of the African American
community who hypocritically denounces racism, but then are outraged when white begin buying property in Harlem or embracing rap music. What can be learned from an analysis
