go about their daily lives without giving much thought as to the creation of the stars, where they come from, or how they are formed. They are just glad to
look up into the nighttime sky and find them there. IN THE BEGINNING Thanks to the development of powerful new infrared and radio telescopes, scientists have greatly improved their knowledge
on how stars are initially formed. Part of the problem, up until now, has been that stars are literally formed in the dark amidst much dust and gaseous vapors. Astronomers
call this dust and vapor cloud the Giant Molecular Cloud(Seeds 224). Though they are born in the dark, they are not alone. Astronomers now know that these giant
clouds hold material for a great number of stars to be created. Thus, we have learned that stars form in clusters or groups. Stars are created when these clouds compress
in upon themselves causing a shift in the gravity within, causing it to collapse. A good example of one of these clouds is the Orion Nebulae. Scientists believe that
there are nearly a thousand or more young stars in this cluster. The Orion nebulae is most commonly found because of the three stars that line up in the night
sky. Another name for the Giant Molecular Cloud is nebula. These Molecular Clouds are comprised mostly of hydrogen with the addition of other various gases. It is these variations
in gases which serve as a classification for the various types of nebula. The nebula who have the more dense cores are in the process of forming stars and/or a
solar system and are called protoplanetary nebula(NASA). THE GREAT COLLAPSE When this nebula collapses in upon itself pieces are broken into smaller fragments which become stars. Though stars appear to
