wonder, since a womans orgasm is not necessarily required for reproduction, what purpose, social or emotional, a womans orgasm serve? THE FEMALE ORGASM DEFINED Orgasms, regardless of gender, are initiated
by the release of the hormone, oxytocin. Researchers found that when experimental animals were injected with oxytocin that they immediately began mating behaviors(Bancroft 2002). This is a hormone that
is widely utilized in those raising animals to induce breeding. This is invaluable, for example, for those attempting reproduction of endangered species. A case study done by researchers at Stanford
University in California indicated that oxytocin levels increased during masturbation, with the levels of oxytocin being higher in women who masturbated than in men(Thornhill 1996).
Of course, the biological reasons for this are obvious. The more intense the contractions of the uterus the better the chances of the sperm reaching the egg. The contractions
