battles fought in the Civil War. First hand accounts of that day would report that the water ran red with the blood of fellow Americans. A great deal many battles
were fought and forgotten over the centuries in Americas history, but Shiloh, because of the events which took place, earned for itself an infamous place in the US History book.
When one looks at American history, there can be few other such instances where the views and philosophies of one nations people can be so divergent as to begin a
war within its own borders. Such is the case of the American Civil War. As states began interacting with one another and exchanging goods and services, it became evident that
the new nation was indeed a collection of two very diverging points of view on several major issues. Those issues mainly boiled down to the ability of each individual state
to regulate itself, versus the collective power of a centralized government for all. When one endeavors to uncover historical facts and render them to memory, it is all do easy
to forget that antiquity was peopled with passionate individuals, all espousing their own causes. One also is inclined to accept the facts as they are printed in the history books
or depicted in the movies or reenactments. The history books generally favor the victor in the battle, not the conquered and defeated. However, Shiloh can honestly be said to have
been both a victory and a shocking loss for the Confederate Army led by Albert Johnston(Bagby 2001). By the time the first shot rang out it became evident
that America was on the brink of the worst kind of war: a Civil war, where brother would fight brother and neighbors would take up arms against one another. It
