your body returning home. It might even be said that there are varying sub-classifications of wars, including those which have popular support and those that are marginally tolerated by their
own governments. For one reason or another, governments around the world feel inclined, for Political or Human Rights reasons, to become involved in the wars of others. This, then, could
be the students thesis: Such is the case of the battle of Dieppes, where thousands of Canadians lost their lives in the attempt to free France from the stranglehold of
the Nazis during World War II, or worse yet, entered the death camps of the Nazis. Dieppes, the student might want to mention, is a small French Harbor
on the channel coast. It was significant in its location because of the size of the town and the distance it was from England. Its location was compatible with the
available means of transportation and it would make uninterrupted air cover possible(Raid on Dieppe). The other reasons that Dieppe was important is that that Britain had been suffering great defeats
on many fronts and had lost a good deal of territory. The Soviets support was minimal as they, too, were being driven further east by the Nazi assaults and had
problems of their own. This eastern front, including Dieppe was would be a significant victory, and probably was a test for future battles along those lines. And a test
it was. The operation was to last twelve hours. The main brunt of the assault was a frontal attack taking place on the beach at Dieppe, after landings on both
sides at Pourville and Puys, thus neutralizing the defenses overlooking the main beach. The long-range batteries at Varengeville and Berneval also had to be destroyed before the landing in Dieppe(Raid
