religion of Islam itself. Several Hadith, or books of the sira, still exist today and are widely read. One of the events intertwined with the history of the Koran is
the battle of Bader. The significance of the Battle of Bader can be found in several historical texts, including Gabrielis book, Muhammad and the Conquests of Islam. This battle is
significant because it was the first of many. From Gabrielis text it would seem that after Muhammad(PBUH) received the word of God through the messenger Gabriel, he immediately felt compelled
to share what he had been told. However, there was a great deal of opposition to the message. Many considered him a heretic as he insisted that there was only
one God and that he, Muhammad (PBUH), was His messenger. At this time in history, the people of the Middle East had not come to any enlightenment and still worshipped
many gods and goddesses and would not accept that there was only one all powerful God. Nonetheless, Muhammad(PBUH) continued to proclaim his message to close friends and associates, but
after three years, he felt compelled to bring the message to the public. He openly attacked the practice of worshipping idols which upset the government and the authorities in Mecca.
Muhammed(PBUH) and his followers were persecuted with the full support of the government and so the prophet asked his followers to move themselves to Madina where they would be safe.
But, he, himself stayed behind as God had not ordered him to leave Mecca, yet. Soon, however, a war broke out between the Arabs and the new Muslims. This was
