is either for or against. Therefore, one may wish to state the paper with a sample introductory paragraph as follows: The question that seems to arise time and again around
the drug controversy, is whether or not a person should be free to make up their own mind whether they take drugs or not, or should the community do its
best to protect people from the danger of drugs? However, when one looks at what is at stake, to simply rely on the assumption of rationality on the part of
every citizen is ludicrous. Certain professions would require that in the essence of public safety they not imbibe in any sort of mind-altering substance. Therefore, it is the considered opinion
of this paper that legalizing marijuana would not only be a serious threat to the well being of the majority of the population, but that it would assume a level
of rationality on the part of human beings which has yet to be evidenced in history. One of the strongest positions against legalization of drugs is that legalizing drugs would
mean that certain professionals could legally take a smoke break and then go into surgery to perform delicate operations (Harbath, 2003). This is a prescription for disaster. Along the same
lines, such professions as pilots, teachers, and research scientists would certainly place the population at risk. In fact, one is hard pressed to find an occupation where lack of focus
