commitment to a war against England. Great Britain is bigger, better armed, with more manpower. The colonists realize that there is a great deal to lose by warring with what
has essentially been their benefactor for many years. Like a slow wildfire, however, dissention begins to outweigh the potential losses. Thomas Jefferson approaches Parliament to argue that the American Revolution
is coming and that it is justified in its purpose. Britain must relinquish its claim to its American colonies. Gentlemen of the court, as it please you, I would state
that my name is Thomas Jefferson of the American colonies. It cannot have failed to come to your notice that increasingly the demands made by the Crown on the colonists
has become burdensome to the point of creating hardship for the British subjects living in the American Colonies. It is to this growing unrest that I must address the justification
for the ensuing revolution. Britain prides itself, as well it should, on being one of the most enlightened civilizations the world has ever known. Great teachers, scientists, theologians and philosophers
have contributed to her wealth. One of those philosophers was the noted St. Thomas Aquinas whose Suma Theologica is well known for its study of Gods word and its application
to the human condition. In fact, many of the existing laws in England today, are based upon his work. Assuming that his words are accepted as noted and beyond
reproach, I submit to you that the American Revolution is a justified war. Thomas Aquinas, himself, states that there are justifications for war which God grants pardon. Taken from the
