C. Maxwells book The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader: Becoming the Person Others Will Want to Follow. 1. What do you think the authors purpose, goal or objective was
for writing this book? Do you think he/she achieved this purpose? Clearly, this is in the realm of a "how
to" book, one that introduces "how to" leadership skills in the workplace and in life, and encourage others to follow.
But this involves more than a step-by-step path of becoming a leader. Maxwell points, throughout the book, to the importance of character in
a leadership role. Character, he notes, involves taking risks (and he opens this book by discussing the example of how Bill Lear ended up grounding his planes - Lear Jets
- when a few had crashed under mysterious circumstances). Basically, he notes, near the beginning of his book, "How a leader deals with the circumstances of his life tells you
many things about his character. Crisis doesnt necessarily make character, but it certainly does reveal it" (pp. 3-4). The main key to leadership therefore, involves character development.
Throughout the book, in fact, the key goal of Maxwell isnt necessarily how to grow and develop leadership, but rather, how to grow and develop
