man in question is a father, brother, husband, or even a total stranger, the outcome is always the same where Katherine is concerned. She and others like her are treated
like second class citizens, which in turn leads to shrew-like behavior. If one really wanted to get to the bottom line in this play, the title itself is insulting
to women. It indicates that women are animals that must be tamed and domesticated. This domination takes many forms as one can see from the play, and in fact, if
one squints ones eyes, it is possible that Shakespeare, much like Ibsen, is holding up the discrepancies in the way women and men are allowed to behave. From this depiction

in their home, denying her basic comforts such as food, and sleep until she is so exhausted that she agrees to his demands. But his abuse doesnt stop there.
