Russia, Japan, Italy. However, Thailand was also very involved in the sphere of aggression put forth by Japan. Their attempts at diplomacy during World War II are notable and worth
examining. Thailand is in Southeastern Asia, bordering the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, southeast of Burma(Thailand Dem. 2003). During World War II Thailand (then known as Siam) was
in alliance with Japan, though it was a forced alliance. At the very outset of World War II Japanese forces overwhelmed Thailand. Thailand soon would become the major staging area
for wars in the Pacific. Thailand has a long history of diplomatic shrewdness. When most of the European countries were busily exploring and colonizing the Asian Pacific, Thailand was never
colonized. This was because the rulers strategically played each competing European interest against the other. The rest of the region would be divided among the French, British and the Portuguese,
but Thailand would remain its own country. What this served to do was to position Thailand to take advantage of the opportunities that colonization brought to the regions without surrendering
her autonomy. Colonization. A noble word for an ugly act, it can be stated. In fact, most colonizing nations invade the targeted country under the auspices of bettering the
living arrangements of the indigenous peoples, or under the assumption that they will bring a heightened standard of decency. The Thai Kings had taken great care to forge friendly and
profitable alliances with as many countries as possible and avoiding any sort of confrontation or situation which might hurt their goal of compromising with several pressures/demands being placed on them
