Some call the profession Teaching English to Students of Other Languages which draws on the acronym TESOL. Most TESOL teachers have to undergo rigorous training and be specially certified (Martin,
1983). No matter what one calls it, the process is difficult and within the model are various challenges such as teaching how to speak properly and how to write.
While every language has its challenges, teaching Greek students for example can prove particularly difficult due to the fact that a different alphabet is used. In teaching a student
of a different language how to write in English, a variety of traits are desirable. The fact that someone is a native speaker of English does not qualify that
person to teach it to another who speaks a different language ("TESOL," 2002). TESOL is also different from English instruction for native speakers as its primary focus is on
language, as opposed to literature, and it also includes cultural practices (2002). In many ways, it is like any language class in an American high school. For example, when
French or Spanish is taught in the American school, it is taught with inclusions about the particular culture, and also much attention is paid to speaking and writing the language.
English classes, on the other hand, are taught differently. English teachers will assume that an American student is already familiar with the culture and also realizes that the student has
a basic understanding of the language. Some children who pick up the language easily really do not need to learn the rudimentary elements of grammar. Some of the language comes
