somewhat simplistic. For most people "management" might involve going on a diet or practicing a better lifestyle. But there are those who wont, or cant, or who cant help being
ill. Though an obese person who is borderline diabetic can certainly take preventative measures to ensure that "borderline" doesnt become "definite," the child with asthma cant really help getting asthma.
These are two different diseases that require two different types of interventions. In the first case, the obese person can exercise and lose weight to prevent the dreaded diagnosis of
Type 2 diabetes. But the child with asthma already has asthma. Certainly his environment can be changed - his parents can stop smoking and invest in allergen-free products. But theres
no changing that the child has asthma; and as the case with most asthma patients, one cant prevent the disease, but can control it.
The medical community recognizes not two, but three, different types of preventions, primarily, secondary and tertiary. In this paper, well example the concept behind all three of these
measures of prevention, and determine their effectiveness in a given health care model. An Overview of Tertiary Prevention According to the Directory
