the past, might otherwise have not had access to it. In many cases, the use of imaging and telemedicine can help save lives (Harris, 2007).
Does telemedicine add value to todays healthcare system? Does it, in general, add value to the industry. The answer here is yes, for the following reasons.
Gamble et al (2004) illustrated how a value-chain-based telemedicine evaluation could provide and identify clinical applications that are also financially sustainable. They did
this through two examples - teleradiography for trauma care and telerehabilitation for wound care (Gamble et al, 2004). With teleradiography, an image is captured on film or via electronic media,
then is transmitted to and analyzed by a radiologist in a different local, through the use of high-speed data lines (Gamble et al, 2004). After analysis, the radiologist sends
a report and treatment plan to the patients physician (Gamble et al, 2004). On the other hand, the traditional "rural health" model involves use of an automobile, in which a
radiologist must travel to a rural hospital to examine the images (Gamble et al, 2004). If he or she cant travel, then a courier would need to be deployed to
get the X rays to the radiologists office (Gamble et al, 2004). Teleradiology saves time, not to mention money. It also means the radiologist can spend more time analyzing more
X rays and prescribing more treatment to other patients, rather than spending the time traveling to another location. Gamble and the other
