change in the way in which people receive their information and entertainment. Television ratings are down, for example, as people TiVo shows, or log onto YouTube or Hula.com for content.
Print newspapers and magazines are feeling the brunt of it as well. With ad sales and revenue down, print newspapers are closing and moving more to web-based models, as are
their glossier magazine counterparts. The change has impacted politics as well. All political figures on the national and state level have some kind
of informational website for voters and constituents. The one main example the student can make here is that of Barack Obama, who was able to harness the power of
the Internet and the social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace to raise funds and reach out to Generation Y and the Net Generation and obtain their support (and
votes). In this next section, the student needs to point out the definition and nature of mass media. He/she can point out
that mass media, by its very nature, is media that involves the masses. Mass communication theory, at its very core, involves the sender, the message and the audience. It stands
