As there was no specific educational institution listed, well rely on a generic university that offers distance learning as part of its distribution method of course offerings. Huett et al (2004) point out that traditional bricks-and-mortar institutions face a host of issues when it comes to offering distance and online learning. This involves more than getting a bunch of faculty to agree to teach courses online, then offer the courses in a catalog. The authors point out that brick-and-mortar colleges and universities that implement distance-learning programs require attention ranging from technology staffing, to faculty participation, to curriculum development that spans traditional and distance education. Jones and Moller (2003) also point out that faculty attitude is extremely important when it comes to distance education. Basically, faculty has concerns about training, salary and workload, as well as how distance learning might impact promotion and tenure (Jones and Moller, 2003). In discussing how the University of North Texas implemented its distance learning in the early 2000s, Huett et al noted that the assumption that faculty automatically has the skills to teach online and long distance is a poor one. The school turned to its Center for Distributed Learning (CDL) which was "quickly overwhelmed with requests for assistance" from faculty requiring training in everything from logging onto the system, to coordinating students online, to working with the software in question (Huett et al, 2004).
