and repackaging, this patient can continue receiving antibiotics intravenously, even when he gets home. In another scenario, a patient suffering from heart
problems sits, connected 24/7 to a heart monitor. Yet both patient and monitor arent in the hospital. Rather, theyre at the patients home, and the information is fed to a
computer located more than 50 miles away, in a cardiac specialists office. This computer is monitored 24/7, and if there are any jumps in the patients heart rhythm, the person
monitoring the information notifies the local health care providers, who then provide immediate, in-person follow-up support. Less than a decade ago, both of
these patients would have been in the hospital for treatment and/or continual monitoring. Yet thanks to various technologies, more and more treatments can be administered at home. More and more
patients can be monitored while at home as well. In the long run, these technologies mean less wear and tear on the financial aspect of the health care system (fewer
patients are in the hospital, using those resources that could be dedicated toward more serious problems). They also mean patients can go home for treatment. Its a well-known fact that
patients recuperate better and faster when theyre in familiar, more comfortable surroundings, such as when theyre home. Furthermore, treatment of the elderly
in at-home settings is becoming more and more a necessity as well (Koufi et al, 2010). Technologies such as MASPortal provide remote access to an automated medical diagnostic and treatment
