parameters of team building, then applying some of those parameters to the plan. The old adage is that there is no "I" in
team. The problem is, what there is plenty of is diversity, individual agendas and people of different backgrounds and philosophies. Its the job of the leader to try to get
everyone on the same page and working toward the same goal. But because people are not the same, theyre going to be motivated by different "carrots," so to speak (Golensky,
2008). Team building is more than telling everyone theyre part of a great team - it takes some effort and consistency (Time for a TEAM Talk, 2007).
The one main thing a well-functioning team needs (in addition to a well-functioning team leader) is a clear, unifying goal (Time for a TEAM
Talk, 2007). Without a unifying goal in hand, team members end up working for individual goals to obtain personal satisfaction (Time for a TEAM Talk, 2007).
Its also important that team members be matched to their skills (Time for a TEAM Talk, 2007). For example, putting someone good with numbers in a role
that deals with words would be a counterproductive use of the teams talents. According to NZ Journal, there are eight "personalities" who
make up the perfect team: The practical person, who can turn ideas from the team members into workable and organized results.
