as far as the next ball score, the latest fashions, or what was happening on the silver screen. They said she, America, had become immoral, had forgotten what made her
strong, and what had made her prosperous. On September 11th, they made the mistake of believing their own lies and now are perhaps realizing that America was never stronger than
in their collective grief and anger over the slaughter of nearly three thousand lives, and the billion dollars of damage to the great city of New York, not to mention
the damage to the Pentagon and loss of life occurring there. Even now, there are those who reside within Americas shores that decry the retaliation against the perpetrators of these
heinous crimes. Yet, these same people claim to support such movements as equal rights and womens rights. This would seem to be a conflict of interest considering the astonishing and
abominable way in which women are treated in Afghanistan(Vincent 2001). However, the record must be set straight, and perhaps this is the point that such opponents are also missing. The
war is not with the country of Afghanistan, but with a small terrorist band residing within her borders, called the Taliban. In order to understand why there were no other
recourses with which to assure that future attacks on the United States would not be forthcoming, it is necessary to understand just who the Taliban are and why President Bush
had to meet force with force. Many make the assumption that the Taliban speaks for all of Afghanistan and for all those of the Islamic faith. But nothing could be
