or developing the underpinnings of a learning organization, systems theory has defined many of the central components of modern organizational thinking. In fact, systems theory has become the basis
for developing and examining learning organizations, based on the significance placed on the guiding principles of systems theory and the interactive nature of participation in systems thinking structures.
In the modern educational setting, the development of new organizational structures, including on-line learning systems and new curriculum, have led to the application of systems
theory. By understanding the foundations of systems theory and systems thinking, it is possible to examine the learning organization and the foundation for on-line learning, including the interaction between
learners, objectives, methods and evaluation. Systems Thinking and Systems Theory Systems thinking is the application of systems theory relative to the dynamic structures of an organization.
Systems dynamics relates to the idea that things do not occur in a vacuum and simply cause and effect assessments do not take into consideration the many different factors
that can influence both short and long-term processes. Social systems, then, relate to the contextualization of a problem, and systems thinking allows for the integration of a social network
