structure of the company where there are retail outlets, franchises and specialist outlets on board cruise ships cover a range of markets. Each of the outlets has a similar purpose.
The current system is paper-based, all the shops and outlets would benefit from an integrated IT system which would allow them to track orders routes and aid with inventory control.
The system would also be useful for customers who would be able to pre-order the bead jewelry they want before going into shops. This would also facilitate a mail-order channel.
To undertake a project the entire lifecycle needs to be planned. The seven stages of project lifecycle management start with project definition and goes on to use of requirements definition,
system/data requirements definition, analysis and design, system build/prototype/pilot, implementation and training, and finally sustainment. These stages will be integrated with and requirements engineering approach, as this will allow us to
focus on the users rather than system. During a project definition there is a collection of information regarding what is needed in order to ascertain whether or not the project
is viable and the investment is wise. The project definition should identify the users and the basic operating concept. In the case of Bead Bar there are several sets of
users, these are company head office, the retail outlets and franchisees and their staff and customers who will use it to order from shops and who will use it to
order online. Using the approach of requirements engineering this is a process that "is a systematic process of developing requirements through an iterative
co-operative process of analyzing the problem, documenting the resulting observations in a variety of representation formats, and checking the accuracy of the understanding gained" (Pohl, 1993, quoted Macaulay, 1996).
