Cheaper and faster isnt always better, however. Indeed, cheaper and faster has been the mindset that has placed our natural areas on the precipice of environmental catastrophe from more
than one perspective. In terms of the agricultural impacts to our environment, agricultural runoff containing the remnants of the synthetic fertilizers combine with
chemical pesticides, the oils and other contaminants which are contributed to our parking lots by our automobiles and to our rooftops from our polluted atmosphere, and the chemical fertilizers and
pesticides we add to our lawns and to our golf courses to present a significant environmental threat. In many cases these pollutants channel directly to our natural wetlands and
streams and from there into our groundwaters. This comprises nonpoint pollution sources that have the potential to adversely affect both fresh and salt water bodies (Brewer, 2001).
Nonpoint pollution is seldom ever contained to one water body but instead is most often spread between many. The salt water
of the oceans, for example, interlace with the fresh waters which flow from the rivers to form a brackish habitat which supports a tremendous diversity of fish, wildlife, and plants.
Rivulets turn into creeks which turn into rivers. Smaller rivers pump their waters into larger rivers which in turn enter the bays and oceans. This same process
occurs all over the world. When water resources such as groundwaters and rivers are polluted from either point or nonpoint sources
