Habits of Effective People was written to improve the individual, and specifically to improve how that individual works in the business environment. Yet, to do so is to take this
transformation into personal life as well. Coveys ideas speak of principles and foundations, stability and consistency as if they are intrinsic to every soul, both human and corporate. The purpose
of his book is to provide methods for achieving perfect balance in life and in business so that one is not given to the whims of fate. This book applies
to all aspects of life, not just the classroom. It is an all encompassing view of what would make a whole human being or a whole company. This is done
via a spiral within a circle, as defined below. Synopsis Covey begins by defining the
problem with habits and how difficult it is to break them because they are formed from consistent experiences unconsciously. They are built from knowledge, skill and desire, which is a
process of defining how an individual or a corporation handles change. The change Covey hopes to convey is evolutionary and revolutionary, the conversion of the strained person or corporation to
the whole person or corporation. For example, he writes as if the whole person will be a person working out of a well
defined center. This person is proactive in the sense he is working from a personal vision that defines his principals, values and life direction. These help him identify mistakes and
