to grasp and often define life decisions which he, and the people who read his poetry, must face throughout their lives. His love for the New England landscape is obvious
in his poetry and New Englanders have claimed him as their own. Frost often uses many contrasting images within well structured poetry to enhance his metaphors. He effortlessly can portray
heaven and earth, reality and unreality, aging and youth, easy decisions and hard ones by using simple language and natural imagery to express his meanings for what he considers to
be the "general reader". Although Robert Frost grew up in a romantic time in regards to literature, his works are often not considered
romantic by his critics but more metaphysically na?ve and regressive (Brower 179). This is no doubt a harsh analysis as it has been found that Frosts works are more symbolic
and tend to work well using metaphors to clarify his feelings of nature and the world around him as he tries to interconnect all things in terms of each other.
This is perhaps more fundamental than the romantic spirit as he tries to see all things in terms of matter and their relation to all other things: a far more
ambitious path than romanticism (Liebman 417). In fact, Frost tries to make every poem a metaphor to show his commitment to these connections between the relationships found in the
real world. Although Frost admits that all metaphors break down somewhere, he basically tries to make the connection between spirit and matter work in a series of opposites found throughout
