can replenish. If we run out of natural resources, we will perish, period. This paper discusses sustainable develop and argues that human welfare depends on it. Discussion Sustainable development can
be defined as "a process of developing land, cities, business, communities, and so on that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet
their own needs" (Sustainable development, 2006). In order to realize this, sustainable development must overcome "environmental degradation, but it must do so without forgoing the needs of economic development, social
equality and justice" (Sustainable development, 2006). "Environmental degradation" refers to the damage human activity does to the ecosystem. Such degradation occurs "when natures resources (such as trees, habitat, earth, water
and air) are being consumed faster than nature can replenish them (Sustainable development, 2006). When we use more resources than nature can replenish, environmental degradation occurs and the situation is
not sustainable (Sustainable development, 2006). When we use the same amount of resources that Earth can produce, we are in "environmental equilibrium" and growth is sustainable (Sustainable development, 2006). Finally,
if we use less than nature can replenish, we are in a state of "environmental renewal" which is also considered sustainable growth (Sustainable development, 2006). This really isnt rocket science;
Earth is a big planet but it is a finite resource, meaning that eventually things will run out. If we keep using more than the Earth can renew, then we
will find ourselves without oil, clean air, clean water; the entire future of the planet will be in doubt, and many species will vanish, including perhaps humans. When we
consider sustainable development with regard to its impact on society, politics and economics, we run into a great many different opinions and concerns. The impact on any of these factors
