one of the most recognizable names in the history of the womens movement. Born in 1820 to abolitionist parents in Adams Massachusetts, Anthonys work would extend through nine decades
into the early part of the twentieth century (McHenry 12). From Quaker roots, Anthony was not unfamiliar with the importance of perseverance in achieving ones cause. Starting a
rally for equal pay for equal work when she was only seventeen and employed as a teacher in rural New York, Anthony would quickly make a name for herself (Battle
235). She would lecture extensively on womens rights as well as on abolition. She claimed responsibility for numerous New York laws ensuring womens rights in regard to their
children and property. Perhaps her most notable accomplishments, however, lie with her formation of the Womens Loyal League and the National Woman Suffrage Association, a group which eventually united
with the American Woman Suffrage Association to form the National American Woman Suffrage Association of which Anthony would serve as president from 1892 to 1900. Her goal, of course,
was to secure womens rights in all aspects of society. While she was only partially successful during her lifetime, without the work of Susan B. Anthony and others like
her the womens movement would be far more stagnated than it currently is. Anthonys reputation would quickly evolve to one of many negative
connotations for the patriarchal system which predominated in her time (Battle 235). The struggle between the differential values of the sexes led by Susan B. Anthony and other female
