for the parent, it overlooks a crucial factor, which has to do with the fact that the daycare employees have to cope with the fact that their every move could
be observed by a parent or their employer. The following examination of this situation explores the ramifications of constant surveillance on employee rights. In the eighteenth century, philosopher
Jeremy Bentham proposed that a more efficient prison system could be designed by positioning guard towers above cells so that prisoners would never know when they were under surveillance, and,
thus, feel compelled to behave as if they were constantly being watched (Drucker, 2001). While Bentham pictured this system as more humane, social scientists readily acknowledge the stress that
