that the Courts findings would end separate compartments for blacks and whites. FACTS Louisiana had in place a provision for "separate but equal" accommodations for blacks and whites
as a state mandate following the end of the slavery in this country. In 1892, Homer Plessy entered a train in New Orleans and took a seat in
the car designated for whites only. Though Plessy was mixed race, only 1/8 black, Louisiana law defined this as black. Plessy refused to leave the whites only car
and was arrested for his actions. Plessy sought a writ of prohibition from the Louisiana State Supreme Court and Judge Ferguson wrote the option of the Court, rejecting Plessys
claim. Plessy, with the help of the New Orleans Committee of Citizens, filed a case before the United State Supreme Court maintaining that the "separate but equal" clause resulted
in poor conditions for blacks. ISSUE The issue brought before the court was based on the following question: Does the "separate but equal" clause violate the rights
of black indivudals under the Constitutions 13th and 14th Amendments? In light of the end of slavery in this country and the directive for equal access to resources for
all citizens, the question posed in this case was brought into question the legislative approaches that some states took to creating segregation. HOLDING The Supreme Court held that
