Essay / Research Paper Abstract

A 3 page essay that discusses the rationale behind political violence. Westerners recoil in horror at the use of indiscriminant violence that is targeted at civilians and justifiably so. There is no denying that violence for any reason should be avoided if at all possible. However, in its knee-jerk reaction to dismiss political violence as terrorism, an important factor is frequently overlooked by Western observers, which is why the perpetrators of political violence feel compelled to take such drastic, awful and irrevocable measures. What do they hope to gain? What are their motivations? No bibliography is offered.
