As American firms turn to cheaper labor sources in Mexico, for example, they inevitably encounter some problems in regulating the flow of supplies to the Mexican maquiladora who assembles
their goods and the flow of finished goods back into the U.S. The consumer, in turn, exerts a varying demand on a product. This often means that production
must be varied so that an optimum relationship between supply and demand is maintained. The situation could feasibly become even more complex when multi-national interests are in play.
A firm that is based in Toyko and has subsidiary production facilities in the U.S. and Mexico has to consider the elements of supply and demand from the perspectives of
all three of those countries. One of the most complicated of these elements is the time that it takes to transport supplies to the maquiladora and to receive the
finished goods back at the point(s) where they are disseminated to the consumer. The movement of supplies over the Mexican border can be
frustrating to say the least. Even when these supplies originate in the U.S. the logistics of getting them to the maquiladora can be complex. Mexican culture is different
than Western culture. While this might seem like an obvious pronouncement, the difficulties that can be encountered in getting goods past Mexican border guards are underestimated by those unfamiliar
