Abstract The management of the supply chain at McDonalds is efficient, with a system that supports reliability and consistency across the globe. The processes is aided by close
relationships with a limited number of suppliers and the custom development of the Manugistics system. However, there are some weaknesses, the limited number of suppliers means there is a weakness
in terms of contingency planning and the automated ordering system with a set schedule of deliveries means there is little flexibility in the system. The recommendations are to increase contingency
planning, increasing potential suppliers and the links with suppliers in neighbouring areas. It is also recommended that the Manugistics system be adapted to alert of stock shortages and locate stores
which may have a surplus to support efficient internal transfers. 1. Introduction The operations of any firm will be highly reliant on the way in which the supply
