if the clerk suggested a super size, he would take it. He did this for 30 days. Spurlock said he was concerned about the rate of obesity in this
country. There are at least 100 million Americans who are obese and the rate of obesity has increased exponentially in the last ten years. Obesity is now the second most
common cause of death among preventable deaths. Although all fast food has been linked to obesity, McDonalds is by far the largest fast food restaurant in the world. They spend
billions of dollars on advertising across the world each year. Spurlock saw three doctors, a nutrition expert and a physiologist prior to the experiment and every five days during
it. All lab tests revealed that he was very healthy. His total cholesterol was 168. He had normal blood pressure. All blood tests were normal indicating all organs were healthy.
Physically, he was in great condition, in fact, his condition was above average for his age. In order to become an average American, he had to reduce the amount of
exercise he usually engaged in. Spurlock is 6;2: tall and weight 185 pounds at the beginning. His BMI was normal. For his height, he needs 2,500 calories per day.
His body needs 80 grams of total fat per day. At the five day checkup, Spurlock had gained 9.5 pounds, at ten days, he had gained 12 pounds. The
doctors were advising him to stop the experiment because his blood tests were revealing problems. Soon, Spurlock finds he has less energy than before. His girlfriend says that he has
