Superintendent. However, as the student researching this topic has indicated that this report should be biblically referenced and should use only one source, this writer/tutor is assuming that the individual
researching this topic intends for this research to address any biblical guidance in regards to this role that can be implied from scripture. From this perspective, a great deal is
implied by scriptural guidance that pertains to role of elders. The Bible presents the role of elder as pertaining to a male members of the church community who is
highly esteemed and who has an exemplary persona life, as he will become a role model in his position as elder. Scripture dictates that he should also be someone who
displays good judgement, but is also even tempered. Additionally, one of the first qualifications for the position of elder is extremely logical. First Timothy 3:1 states that "If anyone sets
his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task." While this particular translation of the New Testament employs the word "overseer," the context of the injunction is clear.
In other words, anyone desiring a position of leadership within the church should, first of all, desire the task. The implication is that men of responsible spiritual character should not
be either coerced or cajoled into taking a position of responsibility within the church, but should, rather, desire to serve in this capacity. In the early days of the church,
the Apostles served as the churchs original leaders. However, Acts 6:1-7 indicates that an additional seven men were selected to aid in the task of ministering to the poor and
