The criteria evaluation in the preceding section contains points drawn directly from learning theory, and specifically that focusing on adult learners. Certainly Elluminate could be used with
school-aged students, but it is designed for corporate and college use. The great majority of the students using Elluminate for their class meeting space will be well over 18,
thereby qualifying as adult learners. Bastable (1997) notes that adult learners differ from children in that they have experience to draw from and can build on that past experience
in learning new facts and techniques. "They see learning as relevant when they can apply new knowledge to help them solve immediate problems" (Bastable, 1997; p. 67). This
position can help to inform not only the teaching of adult learners, but also the teaching of those who will be teaching them. Learning Theory
It has been recognized for decades that there are different styles of learning and that each individual possesses one or more styles. Some are auditory learners; others
are more visually oriented. This means that some learn material better when they hear it said to them, while others learn best when they are able to read the
material for themselves. To be effective in any group setting, both styles need to be included, of course. The criteria evaluation addresses this need, and Elluminate addresses it
as well. This supports rationale for a reading-lecture format so common in other educational efforts. Some will benefit more from the lecture
