can at least help to make a bad situation tolerable. Another suggestion is to increase pay for the workers who have to pick up the slack. Finally, a third way
to resolve the problem of backlash is to focus on career counseling and promotional opportunities for those workers who are still employed. These are each sound suggestions, but there are
caveats. In effect, the solutions may not be cost effective. Still, there are advantages and disadvantages of each of these suggestions. One important thing that can be done is
to give the lingering employees a voice. This may be an important suggestion because disgruntled employees will create a lag in terms of work. This is experienced as backlash and
the employers will suffer as a result. There will be a reduction in productivity. Yet, allowing workers to complain about their problems and express their fears might help to alleviate
some of the problems which surface. A suggestion box is a common gesture to help employees feel as if they are contributing a voice to their organization. Also, personal
counseling services may help, particularly in situations where there are significant problems. One can see that the allowance of voicing opinions can be productive. At the same time, there are
detriments. Allowing workers to voice their anger in unison could lead to collective action against the firm. It might also stir up something that was really not there in the
