the most powerful food items associated with these health conditions. Sugar is also associated with brain development and a childs ability to pay attention and learn. There are, in short,
many issues associated with sugar today which has led to many schools banning, or starting to ban, products that contain a lot, or any, sugar. The following paper examines sugar
in schools. Sugar in Schools It should first be noted that the student requested the topic focus on schools that have
banned sugar and the controversy surrounding that stance. However, it appears as though the most many schools have done is ban sodas. While many schools have also eliminated vending machines
that sell sugar products and replaced those with healthier foods, or other forms of junk food, the focus of late revolves around sugar and sodas in the schools. It should
perhaps be understood that while schools may be banning sodas in school, or sugar drinks, they are likely still allowing other foods with sugar such as would be seen in
fruit cocktails at lunch, or snacks with lunch such as cookies or cake. In the end one can well argue that sugar should be banned in schools, but it is
presently not entirely banned. An example comes with the signing of bills, in 2005, by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He "signed bills that
would eliminate most fattening and sugary foods from public schools effective in 2007. School vending machines will offer yogurt, nuts and milk, replacing candy bars, chips and colas" (District Administration
