are some of todays unique challenges that coaches face. Yet, changes aside, coaching relies on some dominant principles which remain timeless. For example, leadership style is important and coaches
must choose correctly to develop strong teams. Team building methods are critical to success and what most coaches want to develop are athletically and psychologically resilient teams. Competition is also
the crux of the coaching goal. Turman (2001) looks at five different coaching styles. In examining the autocratic, democratic, social support, positive feedback, and training and instruction approaches, different
styles of leadership are examined. When looking at the impact of the athletic experience level, the results of one study indicated that only athletes perceptions of their coaches social
support styles seem to be affected by athletes experience level across time (2001). Further, it is important to point out that athletes perceptions of their coaches autocratic leadership styles for
successful and unsuccessful teams had been significantly different at the end of a sports season (2001). Many athletes resent the stern style that gives them no room for participation. For
example, if an athlete misses a practice, he or she may be banned from the next competition. The athlete may resent the coach at first, but by the end of
the season realizes that such strict guidelines are important in the building of a strong team. Hence, leadership style may change over the course of a season. The study of
