people are living well beyond the age of 80, for instance, and there are more people who are 100 and older than ever before. A long life, however, does not
mean an individual will have a good life. The human body really begins to break down after about age 30. There are decreases in reaction time and even in
memory. By the time a person is 50, they really begin to feel these changes, which continue to become worse as a person reaches 70 and 80 and 90. Given
that certain functions will change with age, what does successful aging mean? People in their 40s and 50s today are much more active than they were a couple of
decades ago. This activity will lead to a more graceful and more productive aging process. Visser (2010) said that people of any age thrive when there is purpose in their
life, when they have a clear sense of self, who they are, why they are here and where they going. During adulthood, people have families, children, spouses, careers, and other
activities they are very involved in. Most people have multiple purposes in life. Any individuals roles in life change as they age. For instance, the young adult is just
