some claim that people who "abuse" drugs are not doing anything wrong. Essentially, they claim that the difficulty is in the definition, and not the activity. Some believe that people
should decide for themselves what they want to do with their own bodies, and that they do not need treatment if they choose to use substances recreationally. This is a
reasonable assumption, but the other side to the story suggests that substance abuse is detrimental. When it comes to drug abuse in society, it notoriously hurts businesses. When employees
are "high," or cannot come to work because they are hung over, it is disruptive. Further, because of the nature of addiction, drug abuse breaks up families, and prompts users
to steal and lie. And while drug addicts, and abusers, are generally thought to be young, there is a problem at the other end of the age spectrum. The elderly
abuse substances too. Some wonder why the elderly would abuse drugs. After all, they are way past the experimentation stage and by the time they have aged, they are expected
to get their lives together. Of course, some who age just never stopped abusing drugs. Miraculously, they live to a ripe old age as many addicts often die early. But
there are cases when substances are not abused early in life, but get picked up when the individual gets old. The elderly are subject to stressful situations and this can
sometimes manifest in substance abuse (Johnson, 2003). Because of this problem, assessment is warranted in the elderly population (Johnson, 2003). The problem is that many elderly people are experiencing
