the controversial topic of student ratings in respect to professional faculty. The subject matter is quite controversial as one may surmise that students are not always unbiased. After all, there
are personality conflicts and also, the professor is responsible for grading each student. Therefore, students may hold a grudge. When filling out such evaluation forms, there are a host of
things that faculty may believe is problematic with the system. This article, rather than delving into the problem of student ratings in general, explores sixteen common myths in respect to
the subject. The first myth is that students cannot make good judgments in part due to their inexperience, immaturity and so forth. This is one seemingly reasonable point as
students are often young. Yet, the author claims, and backs up the claim with research, that the opposite is actually the case. The second myth evaluated is that good research
and good teaching are synonymous so there is no need to evaluate professors. However, that is one idea that has not been proven and it is really not one that
many people would agree with anyway. After all, teaching and researching utilize two very different skill sets. Another common belief that had not been supported by research is that
the results actually reflect popularity and that the nice, warm and fuzzy teacher, always wins. The author reports that while some students have written things to suggest that a teacher
had a pleasant personality, that did not stop them from being critical in other areas. Still another myth is that students are simply not objective and that to fully evaluate
