one can see many different similarities as society seems to essentially push down all cultures that are not white. Underneath both presentations seems to lay the foundation that the society
will do whatever it takes to ensure that, in this particular focus, African Americans are not portrayed accurately for the sake of white people. The following paper examines the film
and the book in these respects. "Struggles in Steel" and "The Possessive Investment of Whiteness" The entire premise of the film "Struggles in Steel" involves the fact that
when a major steel mill was shut down in the region of Pittsburgh the coverage of this closure never once addressed the fact that there were many African Americans working
at that particular mill: "When a local television station did a program about the closing of the major steel mills in the Pittsburgh region, Ray Henderson, a former mill worker
who had worked in the mills for 18 years, couldnt help notice that not one black worker was shown" (Braddock Films, 1996). Henderson decided that this was worth a
film, worth investigating and delving into, and worked to show how crucial and involved African Americans have been in more than the steel industry in the nation. This premise indicates
that when something powerful happens, it happens to white people in many respects. That is what gets the majority of the viewers to pay attention. Perhaps it is assumed that
all African Americans in that region find themselves out of work and struggling so that is not news. It is news when it happens to white people though because they
